Sandflower Takes You on a Genre-Bending Dance Journey with “The Radiant Explorer"
BROOKLYN, New York. Independent and international artist Sandflower is bringing a sound that pulses with an irresistible attitude that has an unmistakable New York City edge. Her latest LP, The Radiant Explorer, invites listeners into a spectrum-blending journey with sophisticated pop, funk, electro and disco-inspired beats. Produced by the multidimensional David Sisko (known for his work with Roxy Music, Theophilus London, Sprayground and Academy Award Winning Director Nickson Fong) and Mastered by Mike Tucci (Wu-Tang Clan, Kanye West, Tyler Dollar Sign, Living Colour &Jason Derulo) the LP promises to deliver music that's both sonically fresh and filled with heartfelt energy.
The 10-track collection feels like a direct line into Sandflower's soul, reflecting her cultural roots and life experiences. While each track radiates coolness and self assured vibes, Everyday Saturday stands out as a flagship record. Already featured in Universal Pictures The List (starring Halston Sage), the track is bound to grab attention with its infectious groove and defiant spirit. As an anthem of personal empowerment, the song represents the LP's explosive core-combing warped synths, electronic-tinged vocals, and a rap interlude, listeners will be thrown into a trance and dancing until dawn. Sandflower's pristine vocals only elevate this feel-good, Caribbean-infused, track.
“I made this album because I needed to share the feeling of flying like a hawk through the open sky!”, said Sandflower in her press release to The Creative Talk. “In my song The Wanderer, I wrote “I’ve got to swim with the dolphins. Glide with the airplanes. Chill with the eagles.” That’s the essence of this album. I call the album The Radiant Explorer because the producer David Sisko and I were really exploring how we can use sound to travel to the places that we want to go. We had a map with only a destination and infinite ways to get there. Dance, rock and roll, jazz, electronic, orchestral, gamelan, symphonic exploration is where the music took us”.
Sandflower was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Rock &Roll singer and a visual artist. The dichotomy of her private school upbringing and immersion in the New York music scene exposed her to different ways of seeing the world, which has informed her unique musical style. Inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Cindy Sherman, Salvador Dali and Allen Ginsberg, and enthralled by myths, legends and the power of quantum physics, Sandflower combines visions from her meditations to create a cross-genre, multidimensional sound experience.
“I had a good time making this album because the only rule was to be honest and let the music come through us. I almost called this album “Songs to Listen To While Flying” because I feel this immense momentum and push throughout the entire album”, said Sandflower whose music and visual art have been featured in Vogue Italia, Paper Magazine, The New York Times, Fader and The London Times. She has premiered music in Paper Magazine, Afropunk, The Last Magazine and Out Magazine. Many of her songs can currently be heard on film and television, including her version of Spice Girls "Wannabe" in the hit Netflix movie "To AlL The Boys I've Loved Before" and commercials for Evian as well as Sprayground, which she did with Wyclef.
“In my song “Thrill Life” I wrote “Skydivers falling free. We’re taking it higher, you and me. Because we’re living the thrill life…” And “The Radiant Explorer” embodies the energy of taking off into the wild blue yonder - there’s this adrenaline and unknown excitement and it doesn’t stop. When I close my eyes and listen to the album it takes me somewhere new and vivid each time.” added Sandflower.
Sandflower has taken her live shows around the world from Brooklyn to Bali to beyond including performances at museums (MOMA P.S. 1), fashion parties for the legendary Susanne Bartsch and every essential downtown NYC club. Sandflower's new album, The Radiant Explorer , speaks to the awakening of the self and is a manifestation of the vision for a thriving sound in a thriving, culturally diverse, world.
"Building on Sandflower's brilliant debut album, The Quantum Seed, there were no limits to the boundaries or expectations of what should be for The Radiant Explorer: only what could be and, of course, creating the musical world we wanted to live in. Analog, digital, renegade and bold, we used our personal experiences to create a spectrum of sound, style and statement on a universal scale and we hope you enjoy the journey as much as we did." explained David Sisko, the Producer.
Additional Tracks Note:
“The Wanderer" The opening synth plucks represent the points on the compass of Sandflower's perpetual curiosity and wanderlust for life, experience and the natural world. Breakbeats f ly in and out across her map of radiant exploration as she stamps her passport to the next, unknown, destination. A perfect example of a feel-good song with a deeper message of introspection and knowing one's self.
"The Edge Of Time": A future disco track that reinforces the theme of the entire album: relentless movement through love, space and time. It was also the culminating song of the extremely successful and avant-garde Sprayground Fall 2024 Fashion Show in Milan, Italy - where Sandflower served as Creative Director of Content, Show and Casting.
"Oceans" feat. Duo Percussion: The gamelan-flavored "Oceans" features Indonesia's Duo Percussion on drums and percussion. Duo Percussion is the brainchild of Hendra Ganarto who is an Indonesian musician, composer, and percussionist residing in Bali. The Balinese Gamelan, traditional to Indonesia, can also be found in over 100 gamelan ensembles across the U.S. colleges and universities - demonstrating its gain in popularity. This song not only captures Sandflower's love of global sounds but also celebrates her tour and exploration of Jakarta and Bali where she performed for both new fans and industry luminaries.
“I Can't Stop" feat. Disco Pusher Capturing the essence of rock and the power of perpetual movement, "I Can't Stop" is Sandflower's anthem to the "all or nothing" ethos that empowers the listener to never ever back down. Co-written, backing vocals and guitar by poet and painter David Aaron Greenberg (collaborator of both Allen Ginsberg and Patti Smith) of Disco Pusher, Sandflower reminds us that time waits for no one.
From start to finish, 'The Radiant Explorer' feels like Sandflower's own manifesto, blending the pulse of music with a genre-bending exploration that's both introspective and wildly danceable. It's a record made for both the late night crowd and introspective listeners who find solace in music's transformative power. With Sisko's deft production behind the scenes, fans can expect crisp beats, infectious hooks, and an atmosphere that captures Sandflower's effortless cool and global visual style. This is Sandflower’s moment, and it’s electric. So clear your playlists because ’The Radiant Explorer’ is now here to shake things up.
