Rubina Returns with New Single “Let Me Know When You Get Home”
A singer-songwriter Rubina has just released her new single, “Let Me Know When You Get Home”. The song was officially launched last night at Arlene's Grocery in Manhattan, marking an exciting moment in her growing music journey in New York.
Based in New York City and Jakarta, Rubina has been actively performing at many gigs across Brooklyn and Manhattan. She also appeared at Java Jazz Festival Goes to New York at the New School of Jazz, Dorm NYC, Bowery Electric and Brooklyn Music Kitchen last year. This new release feels like an important step forward in her career.
Released in January 2026, “Let Me Know When You Get Home” is a gentle and emotional song about waiting for someone you love. It captures the feeling of hoping they are safe, wondering where they are, and missing them deeply. At the same time, the song also speaks about missing people who are no longer here.
The song feels like a collection of memories. It brings listeners back to childhood moments, warmth, and time spent with loved ones. Because of this, the single becomes a very personal tribute from Rubina to the people who have shaped her life.
The title came from a simple moment in New York. Rubina saw a street sign that said, “text me when you get home.” The words stayed in her mind and later became the title of the song. The lyrics are inspired by memories of her late grandmother, Opung Boru, and other loved ones who have passed away.
“When I wrote this song, I kept thinking about my late Opung Boru. She represents many of my childhood memories,” Rubina says on her press release and interview with NY Readers.
Known for her simple, easy listening and poetic songwriting, Rubina who just graduated from NYU, has always composed and arranged her music in a style that feels warm, personal, alone and honest. Her new single continues this style, with soft melodies, smooth sounds and lyrics that are easy to listen to and easy to feel.
Musically, the song has a nostalgic story and sound. Rubina chose a soft, retro style inspired by legendary music and early 1970s pop. Artists like The Carpenters, Carly Simon, Carole King, and Judy Collins influenced the vibe, rhythm and sound.
“I wanted something nostalgic, something that sounds like the good old times,” she explains. “I love simple lyrics that stay with you.”
She also shared that newer artists influenced her as well.
“Last summer, I listened a lot to Gen-Z baroque pop artists like The Lemon Twigs and Weyes Blood. Those sounds mixed naturally with my older influences.”
The latest single was written and recorded during a music retreat in the Catskill Mountains, New York, in May 2024. Rubina worked with a talented recording engineer Jake Aron and co-producer Alex Siegel. The track was mixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos by Reyner Ferdinand.
After exploring many music styles over the years, Rubina says this sound is not something she wants to lock herself into forever.
“I’m not trying to settle in one genre,” she says. “From my Modinha EP until now, my music often leans toward ’70s sounds—Brazilian jazz, folk-pop, boleros, or baroque pop like this one. But for me, it’s all part of an organic journey.”
“Let Me Know When You Get Home” shows Rubina at her most honest and nostalgic while leaving the door open for wherever her music goes next. The song is now available in any digital platforms.
